Urban farming for fresh vegetables with hydroponic tower growing system in Ghana

In Accra, Ghana, an urban home recently began experimenting with hydroponic farming. The client introduced multiple units of our vertical hydroponic tower systems in various configurations, planning to build a scalable small-scale home growing system. Currently, these hydroponic towers have been fully installed and calibrated, with the first crop officially entering the seedling and early growth stages.

Considering the differences between the hydroponic tower models and the number of planting positions, the client has clearly planned the home gardening area. Smaller, more flexible hydroponic towers are primarily used for leafy greens like lettuce and spinach, which have short growth cycles and quick harvest times. Larger hydroponic towers with more planting positions and greater stability are reserved for future planting of fruiting vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers.

In practice, the customer has discovered the advantages of the modular hydroponic tower system. Initially, multiple crops can be grown simultaneously. By observing growth rates, yields, and household consumption patterns, the most suitable planting combinations can be gradually identified. This “plant-and-adjust” approach significantly reduces trial-and-error costs, making it easier for households with limited gardening experience to get started.

For densely populated urban areas like Accra, where land is scarce and vegetable prices fluctuate significantly, hydroponic tower systems offer a clean, water-efficient, and controllable home-growing solution. The customer also indicated plans to further optimize the layout based on crop performance and consider adding more towers to ensure a more stable and secure daily vegetable supply.
