South Korea customized hydroponic NFT system farming

With agricultural land becoming increasingly tight, the question of how to maximize production within a limited area has become a pending issue for many agri-tech companies. We provided a customized hydroponics solution for a Korean agricultural company by designing a space-optimized indoor hydroponics NFT system to fit into the client's compact growing site with a ceiling height of only 2.8m and a footprint of 5m x 3m. We designed the solution to include the following key aspects:

Vertical multi-layer design:   Due to space constraints, a vertical multi-layer design was adopted by setting up a 3-layer hydroponics system, maintaining a 40cm spacing between each layer. This not only effectively increases yield density, but also ensures that each tier receives adequate LED lighting, provides an ergonomic operating space, and allows staff to easily carry out routine maintenance without the need to use a ladder.


Modular Waterway System:   For tight spaces, a 4-meter long NFT waterway was customized, made of food-grade PVC and designed in a stackable, sawtooth layout. This effectively optimizes water flow and ensures that each planting site receives the proper amount of water, while accommodating tight planting sites.


Compact irrigation system:  In order to maximize space savings, the tank and pump system are cleverly integrated into the lowest level of the NFT system, ensuring a stable water supply. Adjusted for green leafy vegetables, it is able to regulate the water flow to avoid overcrowding of the root system and ensure healthy growth.

By customizing the NFT hydroponics system, the yield was increased by 30% compared to the traditional single-layer layout. With a limited space, we managed to install 216 planting sites, utilizing every inch of space. each tier of the NFT hydroponics system is designed to be easily maintained and managed, making the workflow more efficient and convenient.


This success case demonstrates how a customized hydroponics system can solve the growing space problem faced by urban agriculture and provide an efficient and sustainable agricultural solution for the client.
