Before fully launching a project, starting with a sample to verify the feasibility of the entire growing system is becoming a common and practical approach in modern hydroponic farming. A client from the United States reached out to us with plans to build a greenhouse in Jamaica for hydroponic farming.
After confirming the greenhouse dimensions, we recommended an NFT hydroponic system (Nutrient Film Technique) based on local climate conditions and designed a complete greenhouse layout plan. The solution integrates planting channels, equipment placement, and a recirculating water system, maximizing planting density and operational efficiency within a limited space, which is essential for greenhouse hydroponics and commercial growing systems.
Compared to traditional soil cultivation, the NFT system makes better use of greenhouse space through vertical and layered design, effectively expanding the growing area and increasing yield per square meter. This space-saving hydroponic system improves productivity while maintaining proper airflow and easy crop management, making it suitable for both small-scale trials and commercial hydroponic farming.
Considering Jamaica’s tropical climate with high temperatures and strong sunlight, the advantages of the NFT hydroponic growing system become even more significant. The recirculating nutrient solution system provides precise water and nutrient delivery directly to plant roots, reducing water consumption and minimizing soil-borne diseases. This controlled environment agriculture approach ensures stable plant growth. The system supports a wide variety of crops, including lettuce, leafy greens, herbs, and other fast-growing vegetables, while also allowing future expansion into more crop types.
During the planning stage, we shared feedback from previous NFT hydroponic projects in Jamaica, including real planting results and system performance. This strengthened the client’s confidence in the hydroponic greenhouse solution. To reduce initial investment risk, the client decided to first purchase a sample NFT hydroponic system for testing, evaluating the system performance and crop results before scaling up the greenhouse project.
At the same time, the client also showed strong interest in vertical hydroponic towers. Compared to NFT systems, hydroponic towers are compact hydroponic systems with a smaller footprint, ideal for maximizing unused spaces such as greenhouse corners or small growing areas. These vertical farming systems are suitable for growing herbs, leafy greens, and strawberries, further improving space utilization and crop diversity. The client plans to include hydroponic towers in the next order to enhance overall efficiency and flexibility.
