Farming Gardening at Home with Vertical Tower and NFT System in Chile

In urban homes, limited balcony space and the lack of available soil are encouraging more families to explore hydroponic gardening solutions for fresh vegetable production. A home grower in Chile wanted to transform a balcony into an efficient soilless growing space and produce different types of vegetables without occupying too much area. Based on the balcony layout, sunlight conditions, and crop requirements, a customized growing solution combining a vertical hydroponic tower system and NFT (Nutrient Film Technique) hydroponic system was designed.

The vertical hydroponic tower uses a multi-layer structure to maximize vertical space and increase planting capacity in a limited area. It is suitable for a wide range of crops, including leafy greens such as lettuce, herbs, and spinach, as well as fruiting plants like tomatoes and cucumbers. The NFT hydroponic system continuously delivers nutrient-rich water through flowing channels, providing stable hydration and nutrients for plant roots. It is especially suitable for shallow-rooted vegetables and fast-growing crops.

By combining two hydroponic growing technologies, the balcony garden allows the family to grow more varieties of vegetables in the same limited space while meeting different household planting needs. Compared with traditional soil-based gardening, hydroponic systems are not restricted by soil quality, help reduce weeds and daily cleaning work, and provide a cleaner growing environment.The recirculating water system improves water efficiency, while precise nutrient management helps maintain stable plant growth. With a compact design, easy operation, and low maintenance requirements, this type of urban hydroponic farming solution is highly suitable for apartments, balconies, rooftops, and other small-space growing environments.

Today, the customer’s balcony hydroponic garden provides a continuous supply of fresh and clean vegetables, reducing dependence on supermarket purchases and allowing year-round planting and harvesting at home.
