Dutch Bucket Hydroponic Farming in Maldives

With limited arable land and a hot, humid climate, traditional agriculture in the Maldives faces challenges in scalability and stability. Under these conditions, a local agricultural equipment distributor began seeking a more controlled, high-yield, and water-saving farming solution—one that is also scalable and suitable for extreme climates.

After evaluating the local growing environment and target crops, we introduced several hydroponic solutions, including vertical hydroponic towers, NFT hydroponic systems, and the Dutch Bucket system. Considering factors such as investment cost, ease of management, and commercial farming potential, the client ultimately selected the Dutch Bucket hydroponic system.

The Dutch Bucket system is especially suitable for growing fruiting crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers, and offers several key advantages:

The system is now in operation. The client is conducting real-world hydroponic growing trials, collecting data on plant growth and yield, while also promoting the system in the local market to evaluate customer acceptance of hydroponic farming.

For this client, the project represents a key step from traditional agricultural equipment trading toward modern hydroponic farming solutions. As more performance data becomes available, there are plans to expand procurement and apply hydroponic systems to additional agricultural projects.
